20% tin, 80% copper,100% darkness
The Dark Matter cymbals receive their extraordinary look from submerging them in a special liquid, before the resulting layer is polished with bronze fragments. The last step involves sealing each Dark Matter cymbal with wax to protect it from moisture and preserve its appearance.
The alloy used for this series contains 20% tin and 80% copper, and the blanks are hand-cast. After rolling, the cymbal bell is extruded mechanically and the hole is then drilled.
An 18” crash cymbal receives about 4000 strokes with a relatively light hammer, guided by the hands of an experienced cymbal master. This gives the cymbal its characteristic curvature. Subsequently, the surface is lathed using a fine tool.
